Turkish Exams (TDYS / TSTS)

Our center administers two official Turkish exams: TDYS, which certifies your proficiency, and TSTS, which places you at the right level. Both are open to external candidates with no course enrolment.

Türkçe Dil Yeterlik Sınavı (TDYS)

An official Turkish language proficiency exam, open to external candidates with no prior course enrolment. Listening, reading, speaking and writing are each assessed out of 25 points, for a total of 100. Listening and reading are delivered as a multiple-choice section, followed by the speaking and writing assessments. The exam covers the B2 and C1 levels.

Successful candidates receive an official Turkish Language Proficiency Certificate for the level achieved: B2 (70–79 points) or C1 (80–100 points).

Türkçe Seviye Tespit Sınavı (TSTS)

A level-placement exam that measures your current proficiency and places you into the appropriate level — A1, A2, B1, B2 or C1. Listening, reading, speaking and writing are each assessed out of 25 points, for a total of 100. It is open to anyone who wants to determine their Turkish level, and university students are exempt from the fee.

The placement exam itself does not award a certificate. To receive an official certificate, take the Turkish Language Proficiency Exam (TDYS) afterwards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be enrolled in a course to sit an exam?+

No. Both exams are open to external candidates — you do not need to be studying at our center.

Which exam do I need for university enrolment?+

If an institution asks for an official Turkish proficiency document, you need the TDYS. The TSTS only determines your class placement and does not award a certificate.

I don't know my Turkish level — what should I do?+

Sit the TSTS. Your result places you at the right level between A1 and C1; if you have no Turkish at all, you can simply start from A1.

Am I exempt from the fee?+

University students are exempt from the TSTS fee. Please contact us for current fee information.

Are the exam dates fixed?+

You can apply at any time. After your application is approved, we assign you to a session based on your preferred dates and let you know the date.
