About Us

As the official Turkish teaching center of Bursa Technical University, we teach the Turkish language and Turkish culture to students from all over the world.

About Our Center

BTÜ TÖMER is the official Turkish language training and examination center operating within Bursa Technical University. We deliver the level-based Turkish programmes from A1 to C1 and administer the official Turkish examinations (TDYS and TSTS).

Bursa Technical University, to which we belong, is a state university founded in 2010. With an academic structure spanning Engineering and Natural Sciences, Forestry, Architecture and Design, Maritime Studies and Communication, it is counted among Türkiye's most entrepreneurial and innovative universities. Our center is what that academic depth looks like in language teaching.

Some of our students are scholarship holders who come to Türkiye through Türkiye Scholarships (YTB), some are international students preparing for undergraduate and graduate programmes, and others are learners studying Turkish for professional or personal reasons. Our classrooms are multicultural environments where students from dozens of countries learn side by side.

Our Mission

To teach Turkish to international students by making them love it, and to integrate them into social, cultural and academic life as quickly as possible. To develop innovative assessment and evaluation systems using evolving educational technologies.

Our Vision

To become a leading language center recognized worldwide for its international-standard education, original teaching programs and digital materials, and one of the pioneering institutions shaping Turkish language diplomacy.

Our Teaching Approach

Beyond traditional grammar instruction: a communication-driven model that balances all four skills and is nourished by culture.

A communicative approach

Lessons are built around real-life communication situations rather than memorising grammar rules. Students speak Turkish from day one.

Balance across four skills

Listening, reading, speaking and writing are taught with equal weight at every level — and assessed with equal weight. No skill is left behind.

Preparation for academic Turkish

At B2 and C1, students work specifically on following lectures, taking notes, presenting, searching sources and writing academic texts.

Learning through culture

City trips, museum visits, culture days and country presentation events let the language be learned inside a living context.

Our Values

The principles that guide every decision we make, inside the classroom and beyond.

Student-centred

Programmes, calendars and support processes are shaped around what the student needs.

Academic rigour

Our teaching and assessment decisions rest on the field literature and current pedagogical principles.

Cultural sensitivity

A respect-based classroom where every student can be present with their own culture.

Innovation

A curriculum continuously renewed with digital materials and current teaching technologies.

Inclusiveness

Equal opportunity regardless of language, faith, country of origin or prior learning experience.

Transparent assessment

An exam system with criteria shared in advance, a right of appeal, and documented results.

What We Offer

A single center for every stage of the journey into Turkish.

General Turkish Courses (A1–C1)

Our core programme: CEFR-aligned, organised in levels, developing all four skills together.

Academic Turkish Preparation

Content focused on following lectures, note-taking, presenting and academic writing for students moving on to university study.

Turkish Language Proficiency Exam (TDYS)

An exam awarding an official proficiency certificate at B2 and C1 level, open to external candidates as well.

Turkish Level Placement Exam (TSTS)

A placement exam that measures your current level so you start in the right class.

Culture, Trips and Orientation

Visits to historic sites, museum trips, culture days and events supporting adaptation to life in Türkiye.

Certificates and Documents

Online document processes for level completion certificates, proficiency certificates and transcript requests.

Our Academic Staff

Our team consists of lecturers with postgraduate training in Turkish language education and in teaching Turkish to speakers of other languages. Our instructors do not only teach a language — they are also the first point of contact for a student's academic and social adaptation in Türkiye.

Our staff also take part in the center's Turkish Language Proficiency (TDYS) and Level Placement (TSTS) exam processes; speaking and writing assessments are carried out by instructors trained in the field.

Campus and Location

Our center is located on the Yıldırım Campus of Bursa Technical University. Our students benefit from the university's library, dining halls, sports facilities and student clubs.

Bursa — the first capital of the Ottoman Empire, a city whose historic fabric is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, set at the foot of Mount Uludağ — is a place where you can go on learning Turkish well outside the classroom.
